This is an interesting question. Personally, people like yourself, Anon, who are respectful saying they don’t ship…I see no problems at all. I don’t think you hate Tao nor do I think anyone who ships differently or does not ‘ship’ at all, hates Tao. And neither of us is an anti at all.
Where the problem is coming from is the way people are expressing themselves and they way it is being interpreted. And forgive me Anon, but I am going to use your question to address the much larger issue here: It all boils down to perception.
People on all sides of the EXO hexagon need to manage their words better. Remember, we can’t see facial expression, hear voice inflection, or other body language. All of these can change the meaning of words and we forget that sometimes online.
For example, try saying this phrase out loud: “I want candy.” Now repeat this exact same phrase doing the following:
- Smile and act like a kid at Halloween.
- Pout, fold your arms over your chest, and say it like you’ve just been told ‘no’ but you are demanding it anyway.
- Order it from the counter of your local store.
- Last, your bias is standing there…say it seductively so that he gets the message.
Do you see what I just did there?
That is what is happening. Things are being said one way but because they are only words they are not being received the way they were meant a lot of times. The only way to fix this is us. We are our own cure through tolerance and understanding.
I’ve done all this to prove a point.
Look at the gif at the very beginning of this post. It is Sehun from MAMA. His image and his mirror image are Anon and myself. Together, we have just shown you that we can have very different points of view without rancor and loathing. Trying to ‘make’ everyone see things just one way will never work. I offer that the in order to have harmony, we need to show each other mutual respect, accept that we will not agree, and be comfortable in what we believe. When you truly believe something, you don’t have to convert anyone.
You simply believe it. Nothing else is necessary and you are your own affirmation and confirmation.
This goes in all things EXO. So, if you know you like Taoris and it is for you: great! And if you know that you like Tao but not Taoris: great! And so on and so on through all the thousands of possibilities.
Does this make all of us mortal enemies? Nope.
We are EXOtics…ALL of us.
Just because we don’t see eye to eye, it doesn’t make us any less ONE ENTITY. If you like any member of EXO, be it canon, crack, OTP, hetro, yaoi and/or any others……..what matters the most is YOU LIKE EXO and anyone who truly likes them, regardless of H O W you like them, that makes you a fellow EXOtic…not an anti.
EXO, EXOtics and I = You, EXOtics, and EXO, are a threefold cord…and that is not easily broken.
